Northern Essex Community College
Part-time faculty position in history, Northern Essex Community College. This is a unique position. We are looking for a DCE faculty member to become part of a Learning Community at Amesbury High School in Amesbury, MA. NECC and Amesbury High School have partnered in an Early College project. Amesbury High School sophomores will take US History I in a Learning community that also includes American Lit I and a College Success Seminar.Students who participate in this LC and then continue to participate in the project in their Junior and Senior years, will receive a high school diploma and a substantial portion of the credits needed to earn an Associates degree. This LC will last the entire public school year (approximately 40 weeks). The person who will do this job needs: To have a solid background in US History; To be collegial; To be willing and eager to teach in a fully integrated Learning Community. This means that the three faculty will work together to set the classes and determine what content is covered when. NECC and Amesbury will provide 5 paid days of training in the summer for the faculty and will provide ongoing support through NECC and Amesbury coaches. The History I faculty member will: Work with NECC and Amesbury colleagues to develop a fully integrated Learning Community for sophomores at Amesbury High school. Each course in this Learning Community will meet NECC course standards and outcomes. Teach at Amesbury High School for one 90 minute block on alternating days for the entire school year (vacations will follow the Amesbury public schools calendar) and attend 5 days of paid training during the summer Masters degree in History required. Ability to teach in one or two areas of History. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm, strong work ethic and flexibility. Interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to integrate appropriate technology into teaching strategies are expected. Preference will be given to candidates with both college level and high school level teaching experience. Anticipated salary is approximately $10,000 per public school academic year. Bemidji State University
Assistant Professor of History, Bemidji State University. Responsibilities: The department seeks applicants for a fixed term replacement position. Early Modern Atlantic World preferred, duties include teaching U.S. Survey I, World History I, and advanced courses in colonial American history and other aspects of the Early Modern Atlantic World. Participation in departmental and university activities required include: non-instructional contributions to Liberal Education, History, and other programs, to student growth, and to institutional priorities such as higher-order thinking, global understanding as well as sensitivity to gender and multicultural issues. Faculty member should anticipate involvement with interdisciplinary teaching and distance learning delivery. Student advising and participation in university service, scholarly or creative achievement or research are expected. The faculty member should also anticipate involvement in activities which support Bemidji State University's signature themes of environmental stewardship, civic engagement, and global/multicultural understanding. Director, Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library and Museum, Austin, Texas. The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) invites applications for the position of Director of the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library and Museum located on the campus of The University of Texas in Austin, Texas. Leading candidates will have extensive experience as a visionary and entrepreneurial leader of a major historical, archival, cultural, philanthropic, educational, or governmental institution. Also required is success in building and sustaining public-private or other coalitions and partnerships to advance the programs and missions of a public or private institution. Candidates should also have a strong interest and understanding of modern American history; skill in creatively broadening and serving their constituencies; and outstanding communications skills. The Library Director is responsible for planning, directing, and administering all programs and activities of the Library, including archival, museum, and educational programs. The Director of the Library works closely with the Lyndon B. Johnson Foundation and The University of Texas to develop public programs and services that enhance the growth and reputation of the Library as a center of public scholarship and service. Whitworth University
The History Department at Whitworth University, a four member department with a strong teaching and publication tradition, is announcing a one year visiting faculty (non-tenure track) position beginning July 1, 2009. The visiting assistant professor will have primary specialization in Latin America, Afro-Carib peoples, or Hispanic history of the Western Hemisphere. We are also willing to consider specialization in native peoples of the Western Hemisphere. Secondary teaching responsibilities are in American and regional history. Training/interest in public history is desirable. Depending on future enrollment patterns, this position may convert to a tenure-track position. The teaching assignment consists of three courses in the fall, three courses in the spring and a course in Jan-term. Course assignments include a lower division course on the Atlantic World, Latin American History, a course in American regional history as well as upper division courses in areas of specialization. University of California Los Angeles
The History Department at UCLA is proud to announce the opening of a search for the first holder of the Joyce Appleby Chair in American History, tracking number 1130-0910-01. We are looking for a distinguished scholar, whose scholarship is primarily in the history of the United States and/or its colonial antecedents but who also has a demonstrated and continuing interest in the history of America in the World (i.e. in its intersection with other countries and a concern to write and teach the history of the United States from a broad--comparative or transnational--point of view). Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: colonialism and expansion, empire and race, slavery, international diplomacy, war and peace, human rights and international civil society, the Cold War, environmental history, global flows of capital and labor, migration and diaspora, and social movements. Our goal is to make an appointment as of July 1, 2010. Review of applications and nominations will begin September 1, 2009 and continue until an appointment is made. This position is at the full professor level with salary commensurate with education and experience. James Madison College
James Madison College and the Asian Studies Center at Michigan State University seek to fill a one-year postdoctoral position open to experts in Asian Islam for the 2009-2010 academic year. The successful candidate will be expected to offer two courses in his or her area of specialization, to pursue research that is likely to make a significant contribution to the study of Islam in Asia, and to contribute to the University's Muslim Studies specialization and Asian Studies Center. Applicants from disciplines across the humanities and social sciences are encouraged to apply.
